Sint Nicolaaskerk (Church of St Nicholas)

The Sint Nicolaaskerk (Church of St Nicholas) is a Roman Catholic church and one of the most beautiful churches in Amsterdam. The church is situated in the city centre right across the Central Station.

The Sint Nicolaaskerk was built according to the design of architect Andrianus Bleijs in 1887. The design of the church is marked by splendid combination of different architectural styles of which Neo-Baroque and neo-Renaissance elements are most prominent. The church’s exterior is dominated by two towers and large rose window featuring a bas relief of Christ and the four Evangelists in the centre. The upper section of the gable top features a sculpture of St Nicholas, patron saint of the church in the city of Amsterdam that was designed by Bart van Hove.

The interior of the church consists of a nave and two aisles crossed by a transept which is topped with a baroque dome crowned with lantern tower and a cross. Richly decorated interior also features pipe organ designed by renowned German organ builder William Sauer.
