NEMO (Museum)

NEMO is the largest science center in the Netherlands that was opened by Queen Beatrix in 1997 as the newMetropolis. The center dedicated to science and technology is located above the IJ Tunnel next to the city’s Central Station. The five-story tall green building resembling a sinking ship was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, while its current name NEMO indicating a world between fantasy and reality was introduced in year 2000.
Everything in NEMO linked to science and technology from exhibitions to workshops, films, theatre performances and demonstrations in a fun, exciting and educative way. Visiting the science center is a fun and smart thing to do if having an extra day to spend in the city of Amsterdam. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Mondays during the official school holidays. The NEMO’s roof offering spectacular view of the city of Amsterdam is open to visitors free of charge during the center’s opening hours but during certain weather conditions and special events the roof may not be accessible to freely. The NEMO’s roof is open exclusively to the center’s visitors during short school holidays.
